Every child who auditions will be cast in this production, which is unique in Dubuque!

Those interested in auditioning do not need to sign-up for a specific time, nor do they have to come to all of the times. Auditionees will check-in upon arrival and go into the audition space once it is their turn. They can leave once they have completed their audition.

 

 

Location:

Auditions will be held at Terence Donaghoe Hall on the campus of Clarke University, 1550 Clarke Drive. Feel free to park in the lot next to the building and enter through the front doors.

 

 

Audition Requirements:

  • Digital audition form. Fill this out prior to your arrival by clicking the button below to save time at auditions. Those auditioning should be prepared to list all conflicts or potential conflicts that overlap with a production’s rehearsal and performance schedule.

  • Prepare a 1 min cut (approximately 32 bars) of a musical theater song or any song you feel confident and comfortable singing. Feel free to bring sheet music in the correct key if you would like an accompanist to play along with you, although not required. 

  • Actors may be asked to read from a selection of short sides.

Alternate Audition and Video Submissions:
Actors unable to attend auditions may submit an audition video to casting@thegrandoperahouse.com.  Video submissions should contain 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show showcasing range. Adding a dance section to your audition tape is optional. Video submissions must be received no later than 9pm Sunday, June 2.
 

General Production Information:

Full company rehearsals will begin July 1.
Dress/Technical Rehearsals are August 2-6
Availability for dress/technical rehearsals and all performances is mandatory

There will be two separate casts for this production. Students will be able to identify a rehearsal preference when completing their audition form.

  • Morning Cast: Rehearses Monday-Friday, 10am-Noon
  • Afternoon Cast: Rehearses Monday-Friday, 1-3pm

NOTE: Technical/Dress rehearsals will run longer than the 2-hour regular rehearsals. These rehearsals, as well as all of the others, will be be explained in detail when the rehearsal schedule is provided when casting is announced.

There is a $40 participation fee, which includes a commemorative Annie t-shirt. Scholarships are available to cover the participation fee and can be requested by contacting megan@risingstartheatrecomapny.com.

Casting Information:

ROLES AVAILABLE

The creative team seeks a diverse company of youth actors. Actors of all ethnicities will be equally considered for all roles and actors of color are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.

Annie (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) - A streetwise orphan; she is eventually taken in by Oliver Warbucks. Spunky, friendly, big voiced.

Warbucks (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) - A successful businessman with a warm heart. Rich, stiff-collared, bullish.

Grace Farrell (soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) - Faithful secretary to Mr. Oliver Warbucks. Poised, sweet, gentle.

Miss Hannigan (alto, female-identified, any ethnicity) - The orphanage matron who hates children. Very disillusioned, bitter, and cold.

Rooster (baritone/tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) - Miss Hannigan's no-good brother looking for a quick buck. A sleazy, slick con man.

Lily St. Regis (soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) - Rooster's girlfriend, who is also out for a quick buck.

Bert Healy (baritone/tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) - The ultimate radio personality. He helps Annie by broadcasting about the search for her birth parents.

Franklin Roosevelt (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) - The 32nd President of the United States and friend of Warbucks.

Ensemble
Orphans (various voice ranges, female-identified, any ethnicity) - The other girls in the orphanage with Annie. These girls are gritty, neglected, and vulnerable, yet basically honest and potentially loveable.
